Ontwikkeling van een Siku model
Siku's production process takes place in several phases. It is often a process of several months to several years. From idea to shop shelf, that seems very easy but the opposite is true.
In the 'development' phase, all data such as dimensions are first entered into the computer.
But in order to be able to assess a model better, it is always necessary to make a master.
The master is a computer-made 3-dimensional model that can be tested, several tests are conceivable, such as color tones, strength tests (breakable parts), playability, etc.
Initially, the master is made of a synthetic resin (called resin) and has all the details that will be on it (also details that will not remain on it).
Above is an example of a master, made of synthetic resin, resin is yellow but the master is painted over with a gray coating to make the details stand out better.
If everything is in order, then a mold is made of metal with the final master, with which the production models are made with the injection molding method.
The first dozens are again used by Siku for testing purposes.
Again, testing will be done with multiple colors, but the strength tests are also carried out again.
An example of a color test is the following Mercedes 500 SEC:
The final models were only released in black, cream and metallic grey.
Green was apparently not chosen as the colour for the blisters.
The resin ambulance pictured above was recently purchased by us, and I will write a piece about it soon and show what the differences are between this model and the final result.
