An Era Ends: The Closure of the SIKU//WIKING Modellwelt
On December 9, 2023, the curtain fell on a unique place that captured the hearts of many model enthusiasts: the SIKU//WIKING Modellwelt. Since its opening in 2012, this impressive exhibition, located in Lüdenscheid, Germany, had been a paradise for fans of the iconic model brands SIKU and Wiking. With an area of approximately 500 square meters and more than 3,500 exhibited models, it was a mecca for collectors and curious visitors alike.
The Story Behind the Modellwelt
The SIKU//WIKING Modellwelt was established in 2012 as a tribute to the rich history and innovation of the model cars and vehicles from both brands. SIKU, known for its robust and detailed models, and Wiking, famous for its historical precision and refined scale models, have built a loyal fan base over the years. The exhibition brought these two worlds together, offering a unique opportunity to admire an unparalleled collection of models up close.
The Modellwelt was not just a museum. It offered visitors the chance to explore the evolution of model building, from historic vehicles to modern innovations. Additionally, there were interactive elements and a shop where enthusiasts could purchase models to expand their own collections.
The Importance of the Modellwelt
The SIKU//WIKING Modellwelt was not just a place where models were displayed; it was also a meeting point for the model-building community. From collectors to families creating memories together, the Modellwelt brought generations together and inspired young and old to appreciate the beauty of miniatures.
With over 3,500 models, ranging from classic agricultural vehicles to modern sports cars, the exhibition showcased the technological and design innovations that have shaped the model-building industry over the decades. It was a celebration of craftsmanship, passion, and nostalgia.
The Inevitable End
After more than a decade of success and wonder, the SIKU//WIKING Modellwelt finally closed its doors on December 9, 2023. Although the exact reason for the closure has not been announced.
